Thea Kincaid is the New Bern Get Your Color On Founder, former President, and current board member. She owns Thea's Ideas and is very involved with Latitude Church and Holy Yoga. She has been married to the love of her life, Bill Kincaid, for 10 years. Her son, Austin, is in the United States Air Force and stationed in Florida and she recently became a grandmother! She feels our community was ready for New Bern Get Your Color On and completely embraced the annual events. She loves connecting others for such a good cause. Thea has been an inspiration to all of us throughout the years, and we wouldn't be where we are without her!
Samantha Douglas is from Beaufort, NC and has lived in New Bern most of her life. She graduated from NC State in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History with minors in Latin and Classic Studies. She fell in love with the New Bern's history, specifically Tryon Palace, and started working at the Palace in September of 2015 as the Development Assistant. Less than two years later she was promoted to Donor Research Manager. She married her husband, Austin, in early 2017 and they welcomed their daughter, Harper one year later. Samantha is a passionate and fierce advocate for cancer. Our board is lucky to have her organized, loving personality on the team.
Gloria Cowell is one of the founding board members of New Bern Get Your Color On. Gloria is the owner of Cowell's Cleaners and has five children with her husband. She is also one of the many fighters for her grandson, Colt, who is battling pediatric cancer. She is #COLTSTRONG. Gloria is our sunshine. She is always the positive one in the room and lifts us up every time we see her. She's an entrepreneur through and through and one of God's blessings that we are honored to have on our board.
Christina was born and raised in New Bern. She has been an active member of the community, beginning with the Craven County School System. She and her husband Tim have a son who will soon be taking a journey to college. She enjoys spending time with her family and traveling to new destinations! Christina is excited for her new adventure with Toyota of New Bern as the Event & Public Relations Community Member Representative.
She even has her own radio show on New Bern Live every Friday!
New Bern Get Your Color On board member Anita English has been involved with several organizations including Strides for Cancer, Relay for Life, and NBGYPO to bring awareness of Inflammatory Breast Cancer to our community. She is also committed to working with local families who are on this journey. Her mission is to see more services and attention given to caregivers. She is married to Jim English and has a son Carleton as well as several grandchildren with whom she loves to spend time. We just love her and the enthusiasm that she brings to our group!
Board member and former Board Ambassador Karen Monroe is a breast cancer survivor! She was inspired by the love and support at the first NBGYPO garden party and joined soon thereafter. She is a LegalShield Independent Associate and volunteers with The Epiphany School of Global Studies and New Bern Toastmasters. Her greatest joy is spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Karen was the force behind us becoming a 501(c)3 and we couldn't be more thankful for her kindness and help with everything she does for our organization.
Todd Willis, New Bern Get Your Pink On board member, is currently the President of Marketing Agency High Tide Creative. He moved to New Bern in 1991 and lives in a 100-year-old bungalow in historic Riverside! He loves to travel, garden, cook, read, hike, and cave. He is adamant about protecting the environment and recently went vegan. He became involved with NBGYPO in memory of his younger sister whom he lost to Ovarian Cancer. Todd is a vital part of our board, constantly contributing his expertise in advertising as well as his heartwarming smile! Fun fact: he's also the only man on our board and puts up with us ladies for hours on end with an incredible attitude!
Taylor Shannon is the President of New Bern Get Your Color On. Taylor joined NBGYCO three years ago and immediately fell in love with not only the mission, but the people. Her mother passed away from Ovarian Cancer which makes the cause and fight much more personal for her. She works for Boys & Girls Clubs and participates in other organizations within the community. She loves the Cleveland Indians and spending time with her boyfriend Craig, his son Fenton. friends and family.
Rebekah is the newest board member of NBGYCO. She works as the Cultural Arts Coordinator at Tryon Palace. She is married to her husband, Adam and they recently became new parents to Hudson!
Rebakah lost her mother to cancer and is passionate about keeping her memory alive by participating on our board to spread awareness, hope and support for those that are affected by the disease.
Jennifer Bertling is our New Bern Get Your Color On Ambassador. She is an Event Design Specialist for Graceful Tables and actively participates in many organizations within the community. She has been married to her husband Scott Bertling for 23 years, and they have two children, Kayla and Connor. Jennifer was the face and voice of NBGYPO in 2017 with her endless preparation and lead role in our September and March events. She is one of the kindest, most hardworking people any of us have ever met! We challenge you all to find her without a smile on her face.
January Brown is a Family Caregiver Specialist with Eastern Carolina Council Area Agency on Aging and a Past President of our organization. She has been a member of NBGYCO since the very beginning in 2013! She is heavily involved within the community serving as Director of the Craven County AlzNC Annual Walk, Craven/Jones/Pamlico County Healthcare Professionals Networking Group and sits on multiple other boards. She has been married to her husband Robert for 15 years and has a son, Blake. She is a great leader with the most amazing and innovative ideas, and her compassion for caregivers, advocacy, and older adults brings great value to our team!
Konni Potts, New Bern Get Your Color On board member, has lived in North Carolina since 1980. She has been married to her high school sweetheart, Mitchell for 39 years and has three children and three grandchildren. She is an Avon Cosmetics Representative and a cancer survivor! Konni spearheads all of the cancer patient donations each month and is constantly coming up with new ideas on how NBGYPO can be even bigger and better. Konni makes US better. She fiercely advocates our mission, and we love her SO much!
