WE ARE NEW BERN GET YOUR COLOR ON

ABOUT US

New Bern Get Your Color On started as New Bern Get Your Pink on in October 2013 when a good friend of ours told her story of being diagnosed with breast cancer and the trials and tribulations she faced during her journey.
Although breast cancer is not unheard of, it really hit home when this story was told. In a fast but dedicated effort to pull together a community-supported event, we found a public space, recruited a few volunteers, collected giveaways for raffle baskets, baked goodies, lined up guest speakers, and let things unfold.
What happened during the two hours of our first event was nothing short of amazing. More than 150 people attended and over $1,000 was raised. More importantly, as a group, we all grew stronger, more humble, and more determined to do something about this awful disease. Our 3rd Annual event raised more than $30,000 for local cancer patients. The response from our community was overwhelming! So many people came forward to offer their time, talents and services to make this the best event yet!
NBGYCO has quickly grown into a successful campaign to raise awareness and funds that directly support people in our community who are fighting cancer. Proceeds from our events are used in many different ways. We do something each month for local cancer patients receiving treatment, providing care bags, cookies, bagels, gas and grocery cards, gift cards, items of comfort, etc. We created and stocked a book cart for CCHC New Bern Cancer Care that stores books and videos for patients and their families. Most recently, we were able to establish the New Bern Get Your Color On Fund through the CarolinaEast Foundation with an initial $25,000 contribution which would not be possible without the support of our community.
Our website and Facebook pages are valuable tools that provide information about what we are doing throughout the year as well as educate the community about different resources and other events that will help create awareness and make a difference. It is our goal to provide not only care and comfort to local patients, but to educate our community about cancer. Knowing the signs and symptoms, what to do if you suspect something unusual, where to go for information and treatment, how to support friends and family who have cancer, and different ways we can make a difference are all keys to meeting our mission of awareness, education, and support. Together, we are stronger. Together, we will fight this.
Our annual fundraiser is a grass roots, community-supported event that features guest speakers from the community, educational sessions, activities for children and adults, food, music, raffles, and MORE! 100% of proceeds from this event will benefit cancer patients in our community. The more we receive, the more we can do! Educating our community and supporting our friends and family affected by this disease is our #1 goal, and our organization runs solely on volunteerism and donations, with zero operating expenses.
